Afton Oaks is located near the intersection of Richmond Avenue and the 610 West Loop, giving residents easy access to Greenway Plaza, The Galleria, and Downtown Houston.

The area has over 500 homes, many single-story ranch-style homes built in the 1950s. By the early 2000s many of these homes had been renovated, however.

Katherine Feser of the Houston Chronicle said that the remodelings “have transformed many of the original 1950s ranch houses into properties that rival recently built homes.”[5]
